SEBASTIEN CHAULMONTET
As the author of a reference book and numerous articles on the history of the chronograph, Sébastien uses his knowledge of watchmaking history to inspire his contemporary designs. He is passionate about both design and micro-mechanics, and loves to combine both in his creations. Indeed, they often feature completely new movements which he has imagined.

“There were two projects in particular which stand out. The first is the Time Pyramid from Arnold & Son. Inspired by the English skeleton clocks, this creation represents a perfect blend of mechanics, design and history. It is proof that you can create something completely new while taking inspiration from the history of horology. This watch is also an expression of watchmaking as both a kinetic and poetic form of art.

FABIEN COLLIOUD
Born into a lifelong passion for creation, Fabien took his first steps into the world of watchmaking and industrial design during his bachelor of science in Product Design. Then, when he graduated, it became his career.
He first worked as a designer for Manufacture La Joux-Perret, from 2012 to 2017. Here, he had the opportunity to design high-end movements and watches. In particular, he designed a number of models for the Arnold & Son brand. His biggest challenge was his role in relaunching the Angelus brand, for which he was the lead designer and the man behind the visual codes for the new collections. Today, in addition to his role as lead designer for Atiles, Fabien is also in charge of product design and marketing tools for Sellita Watch Co SA.
Building on a profound understanding of the technical constraints due to his engineering background, Fabien can then apply his creativity to the product at hand. His great mastery of CAD software allows him to create innovative and harmonious forms. Fabien is also tasked with the company’s rapid prototyping services, and creates all of the visual supports ( photorealistic renderings, etc.) for Atiles.

“First of all, there’s the Angelus U20 Ultra Skeleton Tourbillon. After the U10, which was a purely experimental and conceptual product, the U20 laid the visual groundwork upon which the entire Angelus product range is now built. The U20 features a unique blend of carbon, titanium and sapphire. With its movement primarily made out of sapphire, it offers a new, streamlined approach to the contemporary skeleton watch. The carbon and titanium case was absolutely innovative by the absence of the traditional bezel. It demanded a lot of work from our R&D team to integrate the highly domed sapphire directly into the middle of the case without sacrificing any of our core style choices. ”
There’s also the Arnold & Son Constant Force Tourbillon. The perfect blend of technical prowess and classic aesthetics, this watch represents everything that makes Arnold & Son unique. A highly complex movement (double barrel, constant force and tourbillon) with perfect symmetry and three-dimensionality, combined with a resolutely contemporary visual design which nonetheless respects the brand’s history.”

JOHANNES JAHNKE
Johannes is passionate about creating or repairing anything mechanical, whether it rolls, flies, floats or tells the time. After graduating with a science degree, his myriad interests led him to become a watchmaker before turning to aviation and obtaining an aviation technician diploma (ES). Since then, he has returned to his first love: watchmaking in all its forms.
Johannes began his career with Lange & Heyne in 2004 before becoming the head of engineering (and later, Technical Director) of Synergies Horlogères from 2008 to 2017. In addition to his work for Atiles, he has been the director for movement development at Sellita Watch Co SA since 2017.
As a widely respected engineer, Johannes now oversees the technical aspects at Atiles for both casing and movement. He works to translate the aesthetic concepts of our designers into technical terms which can be successfully produced on an industrial scale.

“There were two projects in particular which stand out. First, there was the Albert monopusher chronograph from the haute horlogerie brand Lang & Heyne . This was the first watch that I had imagined, conceived and crafted with my own two hands, and I was only 21. It was also the final piece to present at the end of my apprenticeship, and it got me into the world of fully hand-made artisanal watchmaking.
The second project was the SH21 automatic calibre, with a twin barrel movement and 120 hours’ power reserve. I designed this when I was working for Synergies Horlogères. We managed to design, develop and mass-produce an innovative new movement with just a small team and a smaller budget. I learned a lot from this challenge, and it marked the beginning of my career in industrial movement production. ” |
After studying law and passing the bar exam, Sébastien’s passion for watches finally got the better of him and drew him into the industry.
